Live and in person, 2022’s Transportation Intermediary Association (TIA) Conference came with a bang. From the opening presentation to the goodbyes, it was an eventful and exciting conference in sunny San Diego, CA. This being the first event for most attendees since the start of Covid over 2 years ago, the pent-up demand for in person meetings and greetings was palpable.
The TIA Conference is an annual meeting of third-party logistics members. The conference provides an opportunity for face-to-face interaction with the top supply chain minds in the nation. Some of the speakers included Scott Jennings, who served in the White House under President George W. Bush, Melissa Arnot, the first American Woman to Summit Mt. Everest unassisted by oxygen, and many experts in the supply chain industry.
Mike Riccio, TIA Board Chair, led off the event discussing the importance of third-party logistics in the increasingly complex post Covid supply chain. His bright jacket and excited demeanor were a vision of things to come for the next several days.
Anne Reinke, TIA President and CEO, made an impassioned plea to step up and get involved in the TIAPAC. TIAPAC is the federal political action committee (PAC) of the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) and serves as the association’s collective voice in the political process. The TIAPAC represents 3pl (third-party logistics) and supply chain providers in Washington on several issues. From standardization of carrier performance reviews to oversight into multimodal brokerage, the PAC is focusing on vital issues that will impact transportation providers for years to come.
Noel Perry, Chief TIA Economist, detailed some of the headwinds that face the industry in 2022. While 2021 was a successful year for most participants in the supply chain, year-over-year results showed margins were flat for most freight brokers. The upcoming year is expected to have several factors that could slow economy including increased Federal interest rates, labor challenges, and slower consumer spending.
The TIA Conference once again delivered on its promise to educate and promote the Third-Party Logistics industry.
